Erin Spahr, Maren Ritter and Kayla Kennedy show off their retro costumes for the production of "Company" on the Ball State University Theatre stage.
Ball State University Theatre will have a lot of "company" when Bobby, his married friends and his three girlfriends take to the stage to tell their story of discovering love and all that comes with it. "Company" the musical premieres Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Theater-goers can also see the performance at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29-30 and Nov. 3-6 or at 2:30 p.m. matinee Oct. 31.
Based on the book by George Furth, "Company" tells the story of Bobby and the company he keeps. Bobby is almost 35, single and surrounded by his friends who are all married. He is on a search for love, and his journey is told through song and dance surrounding his 35th birthday party. Stephen Sondheim, best known for "Into the Woods" and his lyrical contribution to "West Side Story," wrote the lyrics and music for "Company."
The cast of this rendition of "Company" includes Ball State musical theater and acting majors. Beth Turcotte, director of "Company," has had a great experience teaching and growing with them. "The best part of my job is watching the students learn, grow and gain confidence throughout the rehearsal process up to opening night," Turcotte said.
Turcotte said it will be a night full of laughter, music and dance, and she is sure the audience will have a great time watching the whirlwind journey of Bobby trying to find love.
