Ball State's University Singers have been selected as one of four finalists for Today's Show Choir Showdown, the NBC television morning news program announced today.
Known as Indiana's Official Goodwill Ambassadors, the
University Singers will appear via satellite from Sursa Performance Hall on Today at 10 a.m. Oct. 22, when the hosts announce the winner. Online voting may be done at
KLGandHODA.com.
The other finalists include Butler Headliners from Butler Community College, El Dorado, Kan.; Dimensional Harmony, Boynton Beach (Fla.) High School; and Celebration Show Choir, Mars Hill Bible School, Florence, Ala.
The finalists were selected on reviews of video submissions from show choirs from across the county. The winner will be selected by Internet voters and is scheduled to perform on national television Nov. 11.
"We are delighted to be selected as one of the best choirs in the country," said Alan Alder, University Singers producer/director. "This is a reward for all the hours of hard work and dedication our students and faculty put into the program."
The University Singers, a production of Ball State, represent the College of Fine Arts and School of Music. University Singers are a community service and leadership-building student organization as well as a university-sponsored entertainment ensemble.
Since their inception, University Singers have earned recognition as one of the nation's top collegiate entertainment organizations. The 40-member group has performed all across the nation and in dozens of countries since forming in 1964. They have also appeared on recordings, radio and television.
