Gifts in excess of $25,000 have established the McIntosh-Ross Family Nursing Scholarship and the McIntosh-Ross Family Special Education Scholarship.  These scholarships were created by David E. McIntosh Jr. and Constance E. McIntosh in honor of their families.

The McIntosh family resides in Henry and Rush counties and the Ross family resides in Montgomery County. Both David and Constance McIntosh came from working class families who valued education and social service.

The McIntosh family moved to Indiana in the early 1950s so that Glen McIntosh, David's grandfather, could find work. He was a factory worker who supported five children. David is a first generation college student.

The Ross family members have been promoters of the health care profession, including nursing, for many years. James E. Ross of Crawfordsville, was honored when the 40/8 Nursing Legion Scholarship was renamed the James E. Ross Nursing Scholarship.  Constance, Ross' daughter, was a recipient of the scholarship and is also a first generation college student who graduated from Ball State's School of Nursing in 1989. Other members of the family to become nurses included Zita Ross and Patricia Ross-Yeager.

Ball State students majoring in nursing are eligible for the McIntosh-Ross Family Nursing Scholarship. Students majoring in special education are eligible for the McIntosh-Ross Special Education Scholarship. Applicants must be juniors or seniors and have a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Preference will be given to students from Henry, Rush and Montgomery counties and to first generation college students.

Availability of scholarships is dependent upon an award selection process established by Ball State and its academic departments.
