A gift of $50,000 was donated in memory of Ball State University alumnae Lois E. and Carolyn J. Anderson to create the Lois E. and Carolyn J. Anderson Scholarship Fund. Frederic D. and Lois A. Anderson, brother and sister-in-law of the women, donated the gift.
Lois E. and Carolyn J. Anderson were born into a northern Indiana farm family of eight children—three girls and five boys. Both attended Indiana universities and became public school teachers. Both women dedicated their lives to teaching for 45 years.
Lois E. Anderson received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Ball State. She spent most of her time teaching sixth grade at North Liberty, Plymouth and Valparaiso public schools.
Carolyn J. Anderson received her bachelor's degree from Manchester College and her master's from Ball State University. She primarily taught fourth grade at Greene Township, Walkerton and Valparaiso public schools.
The scholarship has been created to provide assistance to an incoming freshman who is an Indiana resident and pursuing a major in elementary education. Availability of the Lois E. and Carolyn J. Anderson Scholarship is dependent upon an award selection process established by Ball State and its academic departments.
