Three Pulitzer Prize winners — including a Ball State graduate—will bring their expertise to the 22nd annual Kalish
picture editing workshop June 19-24 hosted by the university's Department of Journalism.
The workshop is designed a bridge between the training needs of two distinct yet related news gathering groups: online news organizations with staffs that possess incredible web skills but need help in visual storytelling and journalistic skills; and newspaper organizations that have skilled visual storytellers and journalists but are lacking web skills.
Kalish faculty volunteer their time and expertise, committed to great visual storytelling and think that it's critical that they pass along their knowledge to others working in the field.
Pulitzer Prize winners serving as faculty:
- Danny Gawlowski is a 2004 Ball State graduate currently the video editor at The Seattle Times. He was a part of the team that was awarded the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting for coverage of a police slaying and the ensuing manhunt. It was the first time that online coverage was specifically mentioned in a Pulitzer citation.
- Michel DuCille is three-time Pulitzer Prize winner and director of photography for the Washington Post.
- Sue Morrow is a Knight Fellow in the School of Visual Communication at Ohio University and won a Pulitzer in 2007 while at the Sacramento Bee. She was the editor and designer for "A Mother's Journey."
