The Department of Physiology and Health Science is presenting its annual McGovern Lecture at 7 p.m. Sept. 28 in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Ballroom.

Kevin Jennings, CEO of Be the Change, a nonprofit that creates national issue-based campaigns on problems in American society, will present his lecture "Bullying: An Education and Health Crisis." This lecture has a broad appeal to those who work with the public, especially in education.

Jennings began his career as a high school history teacher and served as the faculty adviser to the nation's first Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) at Concord (Mass.) Academy. In 1990, he founded the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), a national education organization working to make schools safe for all students. Jennings led the Obama administration's anti-bullying initiative, which culminated in March 2011 with the White House conference on Bullying Prevention keynoted by President Obama.

Made possible by the generosity of John McGovern, the lecture honors an individual who has made a significant impact on the health field. The lecture is free and open to the public.
