Thomas and Nancee Kinghorn, as well as others who contributed in Mr. Kinghorn's honor, donated gifts exceeding $35,000 to establish the Thomas J. Kinghorn Scholarship to recruit outstanding students to Ball State as part of the University Scholars program.
Kinghorn graduated from Ball State with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1965 and a master's in management in 1966. He served as vice president for business affairs and treasurer at the university from 1980 until 2009. Prior to that, he served 14 years in several administrative posts. A new residence hall, named in his honor for his many years of service and dedication to the university, opened in fall 2010.
Kinghorn was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by then Gov. Otis R. Bowen and is a recipient of the university's Benny and Distinguished Alumni awards. He is an active leader in community affairs, including involvement with the United Way of Delaware County, Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Cardinal Health Ventures and Cardinal Health Alliance. His wife, Nancee, is also a Ball State graduate.
Availability of the Thomas J. Kinghorn Scholarship is dependent upon an award selection process established by Ball State. For more information about the scholarship and the University Scholars program, contact the Office of Admissions at 765-285-8300.
