Robert E. "Bob" Linson, Ball State University vice president emeritus for university relations and Ball State Foundation director emeritus, has donated $25,000 through his estate to supplement the Robert E. Linson Award and Scholarship Endowment. The endowment was established at the time of Linson's retirement from the university in 1987 as a way to recognize student involvement in alumni activities.
Linson graduated from Ball State with a bachelor's degree in social science and physical education in 1947. He earned his master's in education administration in 1948. From 1973 to 1976, he was executive director of alumni programs. In 1976, Linson was appointed assistant vice president for alumni and development programs, and in 1980, he was appointed vice president for university relations. He served in this position for seven years before retiring.
He was actively involved in the growth and development of the Ball State University Foundation and served as a member of the foundation's board of directors from 1972 until 1987, when he was awarded director emeritus status.
The late Linson was named a Sagamore of the Wabash, received the Benny Award and Distinguished Alumni Award, and was inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame. He was known as a trailblazer in his efforts with the Ball State Alumni Association and Ball State Foundation and as a visionary for the Cardinal Varsity Club.
The Robert E. Linson Award and Scholarship Endowment supports Ball State students involved in student alumni activities, such as the Homecoming Steering Committee and Student Alumni Relations Team.
Availability of the Robert E. Linson Award and Scholarship Endowment is dependent upon an awards selection process established by Ball State.
