The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities has been named among
"America's Best High Schools" in Newsweek's 2012 rankings.
Ranked the second top high school in the state, the Indiana Academy serves as a residential high school for 300 high-achieving in-state juniors and seniors. It was preceded in state ranking only by Evansville's Signature School.
Located on Ball State University's campus, the academy strives to stimulate importance in educational programs for academically gifted students and teachers and is accredited by the Indiana Department of Education.
According to Newsweek, the Midwest has a commendable population of the nation's best high schools. The academy ranked 10th in the Midwest.
Newsweek and the Daily Beast considered six criteria to generate the rankings. The most important — the four-year graduation rate, college-acceptance rate and number of AP and high-level exams given per student — compose 75 percent of the overall score.
