Joe and Carol Trimmer continue to demonstrate their support for Ball State University's Honors College with a $52,000 contribution to fund a scholarship in their name for students of the college.

The Trimmer Scholarship will be made available to Honors College students entering their sophomore year with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 and pursuing a major in the arts or humanities.

Previously, the Trimmers had created the Joe and Carol Trimmer Honors Thesis Prize, funding annual awards for senior projects as well as related expenses of advertisement or recognition.

Joe Trimmer, an English professor and director of the Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry, who taught in the Honors College for 30 years. He is an enthusiastic supporter of its students and programs. Joe's wife, Carol, was outreach coordinator for Indiana Public Radio (IPR) and serves on the boards of Delaware County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Gallery 2008, a nonprofit art gallery in downtown Muncie.

Recipients of the Trimmer Scholarship should demonstrate creative inquiry, civic engagement and leadership. The scholarship is renewable for two years if the student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.5 and satisfactory progress within the Honors College curriculum.

Availability of the award is dependent upon a selection process established by Ball State and its academic departments. For specifics about the Trimmer Scholarship, contact the Honors College at 765-285-1024.
