Lou Ann Young, a recently retired Ball State dance professor who was at the forefront of developing the university's dance program, has contributed to the establishment of a $25,000 scholarship fund in her name that will benefit Ball State students studying dance.
The Lou Ann Young Ballet Scholarship will be made available to Ball State dance majors who have demonstrated outstanding talent in ballet and are active participants in Ball State's dance program. One recipient will be selected each spring at the recommendation of the Ball State dance faculty, with the award to be applied to the recipient's senior year of study.
Young joined the Department of Theatre and Dance in 1987, dedicating her life to the education and promotion of the dance arts. She was the artistic director of the department's dance company for 18 years and choreographed for the company each semester of her career.
Young graduated from Butler University with extended studies at the National Ballet School in Toronto. She was a student of Margaret Saul for 25 years and believed ballet to be the basis of all dance.
