Muncie resident Barbara Lowe has donated more than $390,000 through her estate to establish two new Ball State University scholarships. The Fred F. Lowe Scholarship memorializes her late husband and will aid students pursuing degrees in the College of Architecture and Planning and the Barbara H. Lowe Scholarship will aid students pursuing degrees in the College of Fine Arts.

Fred Lowe was a 20-year veteran of the Air Force who worked for the Strategic Air Command and retired as a major. He moved to Muncie, where he was employed by the U.S Postal Service for 20 years. Barbara Lowe attended Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University) and later taught at the junior high and high school levels for 10 years. The couple remained in Muncie from 1975 until Freds death in 2008. Barbara still resides in the city.

Both the Fred F. Lowe and Barbara H. Lowe Scholarships will support incoming freshmen with demonstrated academic excellence.

Availability of these scholarships is dependent upon an awards selection process established by Ball State. For more information about these scholarships and others available at Ball State, contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at 765-285-5600 or visit www.bsu.edu/finaid.
