Late Muncie resident and Burris Laboratory School alumnus William F. Stout has donated $25,000 through his estate to the Sower Journalism Scholarship fund and Stout Medical Scholarship fund, both established by his mother, Martha Stout, in honor of William's father and maternal grandparents.

Stout was the son of two Ball State alumni, including prominent local surgeon Dr. Francis E. Stout. Upon graduating from Burris, he worked as a health administrator across the country before returning to Indiana 14 years ago.

The Sower Journalism Scholarship supports Ball State students pursuing a degree in journalism, while the Stout Medical Scholarship assists Indiana University students assigned to the Muncie Center for Medical Education at Ball State. Both scholarships give preference to Muncie Central High School graduates or non-traditional Indiana students.

Availability of these scholarships is dependent upon an awards selection process established by Ball State. For more information about these scholarships and others available at Ball State, contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at 765-285-5600 or visit www.bsu.edu/finaid.
