"Guys and Dolls" debuts on the University Theatre stage on March 28 at 7:30 p.m.
The 1950s world of New York City gamblers and petty criminals intersects with true love in "Guys and Dolls," the latest Broadway musical to open on the University Theatre stage March 28 at 7:30 p.m. The musical also will be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 29-30 and April 2-6, with a matinee scheduled at 2:30 p.m. March 30.
"Guys and Dolls" features the music and lyrics of Frank Loesser with a plot that follows Nathan Detroit as he schemes to set up New York's oldest established permanent craps game. After a bet with high-rolling gambler Sky Masterson for the love of the pious and beautiful Sarah Brown, saints and sinners alike get caught up in the fast-paced action declaring that "guys will do anything for the dolls they love."
"We chose 'Guys and Dolls' because it is a crowd-pleasing show that involves great challenges for actors, singers and dancers," said Karen Kessler, director of the production and associate professor of theater. Kessler added that production and design students have been working on the set since early in the fall semester and the actors have been rehearsing since November.
Tickets for the performance cost $16 for the general public, $14 for faculty and staff, $12 for senior citizens and $11 for students. They are available from the University Theatre Box Office, open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Contact the box office at 765-285-8749 or visit www.bsu.edu/theatre for more information.
