Audiences of all ages will enjoy a wide variety of movement styles and interpretations of music by The Beatles as part of Ball State University's dance concert, "All You Need Is Love." The production comes to the University Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. April 22-25.

"We chose our theme, The Beatles, out of a pure love for their revolutionary music," said Audra Sokol, director of Ball State's dance program and associate professor of dance. "Some of our choreographers took a more literal approach to the music by adding costumes and lights representative of the time period, while others took a more nontraditional approach by choreographing to classic interviews by each member of the band. One unique aspect of this concert is that the dancers will be premiering a new work, choreographed by renowned New York choreographer Sidra Bell.”

Students worked with Bell for two weeks, learning a new movement process and vocabulary much different from what they normally experience.

"One goal choreographers would like to represent in this concert is to celebrate the iconic music of The Beatles through movement, while also engaging the audience, so one can expect to see a variety of dance styles, including ballet, musical theatre, and contemporary dance," Sokol said.

Tickets for "All You Need Is Love" cost $15 for the general public, $14 for faculty and staff, $12 for senior citizens and $10 for students. They are available from the University Theatre Box Office, open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Contact the box office at 765-285-8749 or visit bsu.edu/theatre for more information.
