Ball State University’s Lenny Kaminsky, a leading scholar on wellness, will deliver the Summer Commencement address, “The Reverberation of Your Choices,” on July 23.
Kaminsky, the director of the Fisher Institute of Health and Well-Being and the John and Janice Fisher Distinguished Professor of Wellness, will provide his perspective on the importance of most, if not all, choices people make.
Each year, the recipient of the university’s Outstanding Faculty Award gives one of the commencement addresses. Kaminsky was honored in fall 2015 with the award, recognizing excellence in teaching, research or creative endeavors, and service by a faculty member who has worked at the university for more than five years.
Since joining the university in 1988, Kaminsky has provided critical academic leadership in the School of Kinesiology and in the Human Performance Laboratory. From 1995-1999 and 2002 -2015, he served as director of the Adult Physical Fitness Program and as the coordinator of the Clinical Exercise Physiology Program. He was elevated to director of the Fisher Institute in 2015.
Kaminsky’s most recent and notable research funding is from the Centers for Disease Control to launch the National Cardiorespiratory Fitness Registry. He has also explored relationships among various facets of health and physical activity/inactivity and has received grants from the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. His research has yielded 67 refereed publications in the most rigorous journals, six books (five as lead author), 26 book chapters and 56 national and international presentations.
About 1,214 degrees will be conferred during Summer Commencement in the 11,500-seat Worthen Arena. Tickets are not required. The student processional onto the arena floor begins at 9:30 a.m., with lineup at 9 a.m. The ceremony, which will last about two hours, begins at 10 a.m. The event will be streamed live at bsu.edu.
