Maureen Nicholson
Curator of Education
Maureen Nicholson is the Curator of Education for the David
Owsley Museum of Art. With a background in both formal and informal education,
she passionately seeks to drive forward connections between museums, school
districts, faculty, and community organizations.
Maureen manages the education department, including the
development and implementation of creative programs, events, and activities.
She has a continuing focus on collaborating with educators of all content areas
and grade levels in order to best facilitate learning through artwork and
objects, supplementing classroom curriculum, and highlight the museum as not
only a valuable resource for the campus, but the Muncie School district and
surrounding communities.
Maureen has a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from the
State University of New Paltz in New Paltz, New York. She received her Master
of Arts in Museum Studies from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, during
which time she was awarded the Louise & Bernard Palitz Grad Art Scholar
Award for her contributions to the education department in the Syracuse
University Art Galleries. She previously led the education department at the
Roswell Museum and Art Center in Roswell, New Mexico, where she directed the planning,
arranging, and facilitation for educational programs employing all resources
and collections. In the fall of 2017, Maureen received the Museum Educator of
the Year Award for the state of New Mexico.
