Loren Malm
Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer
Loren Malm serves as the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. Mr. Malm oversees and provides strategic leadership for the units within the Division of Information Technology and works with the President, Board of Trustees, and the President’s Cabinet to provide leadership for the strategic use of technology across all university divisions.
Mr. Malm’s technology leadership focuses on driving the strategic use of technology to enhance the student journey and drive student success. Mr. Malm works closely with deans and educational leadership to identify, develop, and implement personalized, high-impact student learning and engagement solutions.
Mr. Malm is also at the forefront of developing strategic partnerships with technology vendors, aspirational research institutional peers, and higher education-focused organizations such as EDUCAUSE, Internet2, and E&I, further strengthening Ball State University’s technological capabilities.
A sought-after speaker at national conferences on higher education and technology, Mr. Malm delivers numerous presentations. He participates in leadership panel discussions, sharing his expertise and insights on topics such as digital transformation, student success, and technology innovation in education.
In conjunction with his current role, Mr. Malm serves as part of several regional and national organizations, including the Internet2 Program Advisory Group and the Business Procurement and Legal Advisory Committee. He also serves on the steering committee of various EDUCAUSE working groups. Along with these appointments, Mr. Malm serves on the Board of Directors of E&I Cooperative Services, focused on cooperative procurement and cost savings for universities.
During his 30 years of service at Ball State University, Mr. Malm has held numerous roles ranging from systems engineering to managing the front lines of customer service to information security. Mr. Malm holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Mr. Malm was among the early group of professionals to receive the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification, holding that certification and remaining an active member of that community since 2001.
