Handling suspicious email incorrectly can have a negative effect on your computer, the Ball State network, the protection of your identity, and to people whose email addresses you have stored in your inbox.

If you get an email from someone you don’t know, do not open it. Delete the message. It is especially important to not open emails with attachments, since they can contain infections that can harm your computer.

Any email asking for confidential information such as your Ball State password, bank account information, or your Social Security number should be deleted. Never respond to emails asking for confidential information.

If you are not sure whether an email is legitimate and you'd like to know, check our Facebook page for previously reported scams.  If you do not see it posted you can forward it to security@bsu.edu and we will validate it for you.
