U.S. members include Ball State University, Texas A&M University, and the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems (CMPBS). Brazilian members include the University of Brasilia and the Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul.
Ball State University: BSU, a national leader in sustinability, implements the teacher-scholar model to bring interdisciplinary sustainability experiences into curricula via various programs. These include BSU’s Cluster of Interdepartmental Minors in Sustainable Practices, biomass initiative, ecological restoration certificate program, university-wide Green Committee, Green2 initiative, five national “Greening of the Campus” Conferences, global media network, and education for sustainability initiatives).
Texas A&M University : Texas A&M University, a major research university, is home to about 48,000 students and 2500 faculty. It includes numerous Latin American initiatives including study abroad in Mexico, Costa Rica and other countries. It focuses on sustainability as a major initiative including activities such as participation in the Solar Decathlon.
Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems (CMPBS): CMPBS is a not-for-profit center and national leader in sustainability education, research, demonstration, and outreach sustainability. The Center is located in Austin, Texas. It provides expertise in ecobalance-based planning and design and opportunities for internships in sustainability, ecological footprinting, dynamic modeling, eco-balancing, and projects that promote change in epistemology of the planning and design professions.
University of Brasilia: Located on Paranoá Lake, UnB strives for excellence in teaching, research and outreach. It includes 23 institutes and schools; 50 departments;; residences; a University Hospital; a Sports Center; an Ecological Station, and other facilities. The architect Oscar Niemeyer designed its main building, the Central Institute of Science.
Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio Grande do Sul: PUCRS has 59 Undergraduate Degree Programs, 39 Specialization Courses, 24 Master’s Degree Programs, and 15 Doctoral Degree Programs. PUC/RS has three physical facilities in Porto Alegre (Central Campus, North District Campus, Vila Fatima Social Project in the Favelas). The School of Architecture works closely to increase awareness of housing for the poor and sustainability. The City of Porto Alegre is a global social sustainability leader.
