Chris and his students examined the role that mass transit played in Indiana’s economic development, and investigated the environmental impact and fiscal viability of rail-based transit systems. In addition to producing, Indiana Crossrails: A Transit Choice, an advocacy documentary that explores the benefits of a return to mass rail-based transit systems in Indiana, student teams also produced a series of public service announcements promoting mass rail transit nationally. Additionally, the class developed a website and corresponding social media campaign advocating rail-based transit, and created a variety of pamphlets and reports addressing transit-related issues. Students worked closely with their community partner, the Indiana Citizens Alliance for Transit (ICAT), as well as other mass-transit advocates, commercial rail companies, and organizations.
