Jeff and his students used the medium of comic books to explore the intersection of religion and pop culture, examining how religious figures and concepts are represented in comic books and graphic novels. Applying what they learned, each of the students then produced their own original comic book - from scripting the story and laying out the panels to creating the artwork and inking the illustrations - which focused on significant religious topics and concepts. The seminar’s community partner Aw Yeah! Comics facilitated interactions between the students and industry professionals, bringing in comic book creators, scholars and artists to mentor the students and provide feedback on their work. In addition to compiling and publishing their collective comic books into a downloadable E-Book, the class presented their research in the 2015 Student Symposium, and participated as panel speakers at the Indianapolis Comic Con.
