Economics Honor Society

Ball State is home to Zeta Chapter of Indiana for Omicron Delta Epsilon, an international honor society for economics. Membership connects you with peers and industry leaders and provides you with access to leading economics publications, exclusive conferences, and awards.

Omicron Delta Epsilon Objectives

• Recognize scholastic attainment and honor outstanding achievements in economics.
• Establish closer ties between students and faculty in economics within colleges and universities, as well as among colleges and universities.
• Publish the official journal, The American Economist.
• Sponsor panels at professional meetings as well as the Irving Fisher and Frank W. Taussig competitions.

History

Omicron Delta Epsilon is one of the world’s largest academic honor societies, with almost 700 chapters worldwide. It began in 1963 through the merger of two honor societies, Omicron Delta Gamma and Omicron Chi Epsilon. The oldest of the two (Omicron Delta Gamma) dates to the 1915 founding by John R. Commons at the University of Wisconsin and Frank Taussig of Harvard University, who united the economics societies of their universities.

Membership Requirements

To become a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon, you must be enrolled as a Ball State student, apply through the chapter at your school, and fulfill these requirements:

• completed 12 credit hours of economics courses
• GPA of 3.0 or higher in economics courses and an overall GPA of at least 3.5
• junior standing
• the study of economics is one of your major interests

No one will be denied membership because of sex, race, color, creed or national origin.
