Jason (Jiansheng) Yang joined Ball State in 2005 and currently is a Professor of Geography in Concentration 3: GISc. His most frequently taught courses include Introduction to GIS, Introductory Remote Sensing, Advanced Remote Sensing, Research Methods in Geography, and Quantitative Methods in Geography. His principal areas of research interests include applications of remote sensing, GIS, and geospatial analysis on natural resources management & environmental monitoring, particular on vegetation mapping in wetland habitats, surface coal mines, and urban landscapes. He received his B.S. in 1989 from the Shanxi University in China, his M.S. in 1999 from the University of Connecticut, and his Ph.D. in 2003 from the University of Rhode Island.
