In addition to our performing ensembles, a variety of music fraternities, professional associations, and other organizations provide special opportunities for students and faculty in the Ball State School of Music.

Audio Engineering Society

This is the Ball State chapter of the leading association worldwide for professionals and students involved in the audio industry. The Audio Engineering Society (AES) serves its members, the industry and the public by stimulating and facilitating advances in the constantly changing field of audio. It encourages and disseminates new developments through annual technical meetings and exhibitions of pro audio equipment, and through the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, the professional archival publication of the audio industry. Locally, we host biweekly meetings that discuss many different subjects across the field of the audio industry, a bi-annual Battle of the Bands, and several social events. Learn more.

American Choral Directors Association

This organization fosters and promotes choral music to Ball State University students and follows the national purposes of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), which is to raise the choral art and train new choral directors. Ball State University's ACDA chapter was named National Chapter of the Year by the national organization in 2005. Learn more.

The Indiana Music Educators Association (IMEA) supports and advances music education in Indiana by representing the united interests of music educators and students and by providing professional leadership and service in music education to enhance the arts in the schools. Learn more.

The National Association for Music Education

The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) provides opportunities for professional development, acquaints students with the responsibilities of the music education profession, and allows students to participate in programs, discussions, workshops, and performances. Learn more.

National Band Association

The National Band Association organization promotes the excellence of band, pride, and enthusiasm in the band movement, and a spirit of cooperation and dialogue among university band students, band directors, performers, representatives of the music industry, and all other supporters of the band movement. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia

Pi Kappa Lambda

The Society of Pi Kappa Lambda is dedicated to furthering music in education and education in music in colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher learning that offer music degree programs in one or more fields. Society of Composers, Inc.

The Ball State chapter of the Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI) is designed to strengthen our composing community, provide a network of composers/performers to play, provide feedback on works in progress, and connect Ball State with composers in the region. We meet on a regular basis to discuss new pieces (both by students and professionals), compositional/editing techniques, and opportunities for professional development.

Sigma Alpha Iota

Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) is an international fraternity for women who express a strong interest in music. SAI holds recruitment in the spring and the fall for women who have completed one or more music courses. Women interested in joining this organization do not need to be music majors. Learn more.
