The Minor in Nutrition is designed for students interested in understanding food and nutrients and how they affect personal health and health of communities. The nutrition minor will also prepare students to be informed consumers of nutrition information.

This minor is not available to students majoring in dietetics.

Through classroom and experiential learning, the program will train a student to name primary food sources of nutrients, including protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, vitamins and minerals, plan nutrient-rich meals, recognize unique nutrient needs throughout the life cycle, identify functions of nutrients in the body, describe the biological, psychological, cultural and social factors that affect dietary intake and related diseases, and recognize the relationships between nutrition, wellness and disease risk.

Program Details

Course Requirements: The Minor in Nutrition requires the completion of 15 credit hours, including a combination of core courses and electives. The program is structured to provide a balanced and in-depth understanding of nutrition with the ability to personalize the program to your interests.

  • NUTR 340: Principles of Human Nutrition (3 credits)
  • NUTR 455: Lifecycle Nutrition (Prerequisite NUTR 340) (3 credits)
  • HOSP 110: Principles of Food Preparation and Food Science (3 credits)
