Oseye Boyd is a seasoned, award-winning journalist with over 25 years of experience in both newspapers and magazines. In 1995, as a sophomore at Ball State, she started professionally as a part-time copy clerk at The Muncie Star — later The Star Press — after the morning and evening papers merged. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in journalism and worked as a reporter for The Star Press from 2002-2012, writing breaking, hard news as well as features. She was editor of the weekly entertainment section, and she provided multimedia and social media contributions to this publication.
As the editor of the Indianapolis Recorder, Oseye launched a new engagement strategy to attract more readers, and she developed rapport with local businesses and organizations to raise the profile of the publication in the community. She currently supervises a team of reporters as well as high school and college interns, providing copious tips for improvement and professional development opportunities. Notably, about 16 years before becoming the editor of the Indianapolis Recorder, Boyd had previously established its education and family beat and served as one of its reporters.
Oseye has been quoted as referring to the Recorder as an often overlooked “gem” in the backyard of Indianapolis. She also has openly stressed the important fact that local papers need local support. In addition to her editorial responsibilities at the Recorder, Boyd composes opinion pieces for it, and she is also the editor of the Indiana Minority Business Magazine.
