Biography
Sarah Mangelsdorf (she/her), Professor Emeritus, served as the director/coordinator of dance in Ball State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance from 1987-2009 and was the director of Ball State Dance Theatre from 1987-1996. She served as a curriculum advisor for the dance major, and her teaching responsibilities included choreography courses, dance history for dance majors, and the introduction to dance history course for the University Core Curriculum. She also was the faculty advisor for the student production programs, which included the Junior and Senior Choreography Showcases, Works-in-Motion, and Festival of the Word and Dance. Mangelsdorf also advised choreography projects and promoted collaborative projects with the College of Architecture and School of Music and the choreography courses. Mangelsdorf received her BS degree from the University of Arkansas and MA degree from Texas Woman’s University. She was fortunate to study with Eleanor King, Charles Weidman, Jack Cole, Hanya Holm, James Neirinck, and Bill Evans. Professor Mangelsdorf retired in 2014 but continues to teach Introduction to Dance History online.
