Roberta Wong
Assistant Teaching Professor of Ballet/Dance Generalist
Roberta Wong has been a professional performing and teaching artist for over 30 years. Highlights include: Boston Ballet (apprentice), company member Indianapolis Ballet Theatre, and company member, company teacher and rehearsal director for Dance Kaleidoscope, under David Hochoy. She has received Creative Renewal Fellowships from the Arts Council of Indianapolis, Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artist grants, and a Ball State University CHIRP grant. Her Indiana Arts Commission Lifelong grant awards led to the design and delivery of seated senior programming within senior homes, and inspired the formation of the nonprofit Dance Every Journey, where she has taught seated seniors, Ballet for 50+ and veterans from domiciliary. Festival teaching has included Dance West Virginia Fall Festival, Indiana Dance Festival, Indy Dance Festival, and ACDA festival. Roberta holds a bachelor's of science degree from Butler University and has been trained and teaching in Dance For Parkinson's, for which she assisted in launching three chapter programs in Indiana, demonstrating samples of the program to 200 persons at the Parkinson’s Disease Symposium through Parkinsons Foundation and IU Health. She has taught at Anderson, Butler, and IU Bloomington universities and was first area coordinator for Anderson University's then emerging dance minor into major program. She has choreographed for Anderson University's internationally-televised "Candles and Carols," the Peggy Dorsey Memorial concert, Indianapolis Ballet (company) "New Works," Indy Convergence artists' lab, and Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival. She sits on the boards of Dance For Parkinson's Bloomington Indiana and the Indy Dance Council and was invited to be an artistic advisor to the Indiana Arts Commission's Strategic Framework Advisory Committee whose work shaped the organization's current strategic plan. Her memberships include Dance For Parkinson's, NOAH (National Organization for Arts in Health) and the International Dance Council-CID UNESCO. She has been a professional dance photographer and in 2023, was featured in the short film "Dreaming of You(th)" by director Mike Woodall, choreographer Stuart Lewis, music by cellist Gabriel Royal which won "Best Music Video" at Short. Sweet. Film Fest. in Cleveland, OH and was screened in 12 cities including 2 countries.
