Informal Recreation Guidelines

Use of recreation facilities, programs and services is a privilege. Valid university or personal identification is required of all students, staff, and valid Recreation Privilege Card holders for use in all facilities. Informal recreation spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis regardless of sport. General Facility Guidelines

Informal Recreation

The Student Recreation and Wellness Center opened its doors on August 18, 2010 after two years of construction. The 200,000 sq. ft. center includes a three level fitness room, suspended track, indoor turf field, five court gymnasium, multipurpose rooms, food service area, and gathering areas for patrons to meet and relax with friends. The facility also houses the Outdoor Pursuits Center, an outdoor resource center that features a 36-foot climbing wall, and offers clinics, programs, and rental equipment for various outdoor activities.

Fitness Room: The multi-level fitness area (totaling 13,000 sq. ft.) provides cardio and strength training areas that include some of the fitness industry’s newest equipment.

Suspended Track: three lane, 200-meter long indoor track with cardio equipment overlooking Neely Avenue.

Fitness Center Guidelines

Five-Court Gymnasium: The new addition brings the total number to seven courts in the facility.

Three Multi-Purpose Rooms: 5,400 sq. ft. of space for specialized forms of conditioning, REC Fit classes, and sport clubs.

Indoor Turf Building: 20,000 sq. ft. with four batting cages.

Rock Climbing Wall: 1500 sq. ft. capable of bouldering, top roping, and lead climbing. 

Outdoor Pursuits Rental Center: Outdoor Pursuits has outdoor rental equipment, consultation on trip planning, and the opportunity to register for led trips each semester.
All of these facilities found in the new Student Recreation & Wellness Center are in addition to the following existing recreation areas. In total, cardholders have access to over 400,000 sq. ft. of recreational facilities!
