Join the Honors College

The Honors College provides me with a wider variety of perspectives on all aspects of life. As someone who’s always been focused on the sciences and humanities, seeing the broader perspectives from peers with interests in all fields has helped me to view my work in various ways—and to make sure I view all works with an open mind.

Honors College has been a blast. I have been able to participate in 4 honors courses so far, and have gone to most events at the honors house. I've been able to foster a close relationship with both my faculty as well as the honors college administration.

Honors College has been amazing. I've gotten to participate in classes and discussions I would not have had in classes for my major. Also, being a Whitinger Scholar, I'm incredibly thankful to the program for financially helping me come to college and achieve my dreams.

The Honors College has supported me, encouraged me, and fostered my personal growth more than I could have ever anticipated. A large part of why I chose Ball State was the Honors College, and has been a major part of why I have stayed here. The humanities education has taught me some of the greatest life lessons. The faculty have been incredible mentors for me. I am constantly inspired by my Honors peers and professors.

I transferred to Ball State the summer after my freshman year due to some extenuating circumstances. In finding a new school, I knew that I wanted the rigor and the close-knit experience of a private liberal arts college while reaping the benefits of a large public college and Ball State was a functional fusion of both. I found the learning environment here intellectually stimulating with a small number of students offering a rich diversity of topics and opinions - so I was able to focus on learning rather than trying to relearn college life. I am now a senior, a Fulbright applicant and Phi Kappa Phi scholar. I do not feel any loss despite being a transfer student; the Honors College enriched my college career tremendously.

I have been a Peer Mentor for the honors college for the last three years, I received the Honors College Undergraduate Research Fellowship from Spring 20 to Fall 21 semesters, I also received the Take Flight honors college scholarship my sophomore year. Any time the honors college asks for volunteers I try to help, recently I gave a tour of campus to prospective honors college students.

I loved my time in the Honors College! I was able to develop my writing and critical thinking skills in the humanities sequence. I was able to have the space to learn about other cultures and reflect on our culture. I participated in the Jane Austen colloquium with Professor Dalton where we traveled to England and the Holocaust Music colloquium with Dr. Gertzenson where I performed a piece written by Hannah Senesh on the clarinet. I have completed all requirements for the Honors College with the completion of my thesis, an oral history project about Spiceland, Indiana.
