At Ball State, Media students don’t have to wait until they get into the "real world" to shoot their short film, make a sales pitch, produce a newscast, or host their own radio show. Students join our active organizations to hone skills learned in the classroom, have fun building their professional portfolios, and develop leadership skills.

BSU Tonight

“BSU Tonight” is a TV entertainment show formatted to appeal to college students and the general public. The objective is to produce high-quality programming and give you the training needed to excel in upper-level Media classes. The program airs on local public access cable channels. Learn more.

Cardinal Aces

Students who join Cardinal Aces learn to demonstrate and fly unmanned aerial vehicles. They also go on field trips to UAV workshops, demonstrations, and flying events. Cardinal Aces supports other Department of Media organizations by providing aerial footage for programs, films, and television broadcasts.

Cardinal Filmworks

A student organization that operates like a real-life movie production company— just without paychecks. Cardinal Filmworks provides a platform for students of all majors to network and gain experience in the making of short films.

Cardinal Sports Live (CSL)

“Cardinal Sports Live” is a weekly television show that looks at Ball State intercollegiate and club sports from the unique perspectives of the show’s personalities, highlighting sporting events and featuring interviews with coaches and players. Each season, “Cardinal Sports Live” challenges a Ball State team or group of coaches to a game in their respective sport. Learn more.

Fringed Production House

For over two decades, the Frog Baby Film Festival has showcased the best student films produced by Ball State undergraduate students. Films are juried by a panel of faculty, but the entire event is organized, implemented, and hosted by student members of the Frog Baby Film Festival organization.

The purpose of Fringed is to build a community of empowered collegiate women and minorities of all backgrounds who are interested in the field of telecommunications and to provide a safe and comfortable environment for these people to experiment, create, network, learn and hone skills.

Indiana Outdoors 

“Indiana Outdoors” creates content that highlights Indiana natural resources, historic sites, and recreational opportunities around the state through stories shot independently by students. Learn more.

NewsLink Indiana

“NewsLink Indiana” is Ball State’s Emmy Award-winning nightly newscast. Students perform every role, both on-camera and behind the scenes, for a live 9 p.m. newscast that reaches all of Delaware County via cable. NewsLink offers Ball State students opportunities to learn firsthand how to write, produce, shoot, edit, report, anchor, and begin building a portfolio of their work. The Reel Deal

Ball State's premier movie review and entertainment news show, “Reel Deal” is a half-hour weekly television show that highlights current, upcoming, and classic Hollywood films and film-related events and productions around campus. Students interview campus filmmakers and record feedback from students on location at university film events. Learn more.

“Waking Up with Cardinal Weather” is Ball State University's first and only morning mobile show focused on getting you ready for the day through local news, weather, and lifestyle trends. “Waking Up with Cardinal Weather” airs every Friday at 8:15 a.m. Eastern time on Facebook. Learn more.

Ball State PBS

Ball State PBS is the university-owned, over-the-air Public Broadcasting Service affiliate carried on more than 30 cable systems. Students can participate as volunteers or part-time employees for in-studio and remote productions. Learn more.

Audio Engineering Society

The Ball State chapter of Audio Engineering Society serves its members, the industry, and the public by stimulating and facilitating advances in the constantly changing field of audio. It encourages and disseminates developments through annual technical meetings, exhibitions of pro audio equipment, and the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, the professional archival publication of the audio industry. WCRD-FM (91.3)

WCRD is a student–run radio FM station licensed by the Federal Communications Commission. It broadcasts at 91.3 FM and streams from www.wcrd.net.   It also is accessible on the TuneIn and RadioFX apps. WCRD broadcasts a variety of music genres, talk shows, up-to-date weather forecasts, a weekday evening newscast and regular news updates. Indiana Public Radio is the university-owned, award-winning news and classical music affiliate of National Public Radio. Ball State National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ)

The National Association of Black Journalists is an organization of journalists, students, and media-related professionals that provides quality programs and services to and advocates on behalf of black journalists worldwide. Founded by 44 men and women on December 12, 1975, in Washington, D.C., NABJ is the largest organization of journalists of color in the nation. Many of NABJ's 3,300 members also belong to professional and student chapters that serve black journalists nationwide. Ball State’s chapter was founded in 1990. Learn more.

Ball State National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ)

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) is dedicated to the recognition and professional advancement of Hispanics in the news industry. Established in April 1984, NAHJ created a national voice and unified vision for all Hispanic journalists. Ball State NAHJ offers students the opportunity to meet with industry professionals and to attend workshops that help build professional portfolios and personal networks. Learn more.

Pi Sigma Epsilon (PSE) 

Pi Sigma Epsilon is a national professional and coeducational fraternity in selling, sales management, and marketing. It’s open to any Ball State student interested in those fields or related ones. In addition to other social and career-focused activities, PSE organizes the annual Sales Career Fair Spritzer, an opportunity for sales students to network with the fair’s recruiters. Learn more.

Immersive Learning

Student-led immersive learning opportunities are at the core of the Media academic experience. Guided by a faculty mentor as part of a course, students produce short films, documentaries, and commercials; record bands; host promotional events; sell sponsorships; and create marketing plans for local, regional, and national clients. Learn more.
