Thomas Holtgraves is a social psychologist (Ph.D., 1983, University of Nevada) who teaches courses in research methods, statistics, and personality. His primary research program focuses on the relationship between language and social psychology. This research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and National Institute of Health and has been published in major social psychology and cognitive psychology journals. He writes about the role of language in the real world via blog posts and commentary, edited the Oxford Handbook of Language and Social Psychology (Oxford University Press, 2014) and authored Language as Social Action: Social Psychology and Language Use (Erlbaum, 2002). He has additional research interests in gambling and risk-taking, and personality and information processing.
