Not all students present to the emergency room or to a police officer after sexual violence.  Many people first reveal exposure to sexual violence during the course of a visit to the Health Center for a problem which may or may not be directly related to previous sexual violence.

The staff of the Health Center are trained to deal in a sensitive and kind manner when a history of sexual violence is uncovered.  As long as no immediate threat to the safety of the patient or another individual is revealed, all decisions about evaluation, treatment, and assistance are made jointly with the patient.
