Move-In 2024

Move-in day marks the beginning of your experience at Ball State, filled with opportunities for growth, friendship, and academic achievement!

As you prepare to settle into your new home away from home, we want to ensure that your transition is as smooth as possible. Below, you'll find important information and helpful resources to make your transition seamless. We're here to support you every step of the way and look forward to welcoming you to campus!

Standard plan students

Wednesday, August 14*
Thursday, August 15
Friday, August 16

*Afternoon only - The morning of this date is for students on the Premium Plan. There will be an early arrival fee of $30 for first-year students who move-in on this date as it is a day before contracts start for AY 24-25.

Move-In Appointments

Every student living on campus needs to schedule a move-in appointment on the housing portal.

Scheduling a move-in appointment helps with the influx of traffic on campus and lets our hall staff properly prepare for arrivals.

On the day of a student's scheduled move-in, they will receive an email with a QR code. Students will need to have their QR code ready upon arrival at their residence hall. Housing and Residence Life staff will then scan the QR code, officially checking the student in to their residence hall for the Academic Year.

Wednesday, August 14

Students on the Premium Plan will be able to move into their residence hall on this exclusive move-in date at their scheduled move-in appointment time.

If you are a Premium Plan student and August 14 doesn't work for you to move-in, you can move in any day following August 14 during your scheduled move-in appointment time.

What to Bring

Wondering what all you should bring for your new room?  We have some recommendations to help as you prepare for your big move! Ultimately, make sure to bring things that will make your space feel comfortable and like your very own.

What to Expect

Move-in day on Ball State's campus is truly exciting! Please review the following items so that you are prepared and have an idea of what to expect come your actual move-in day.

  • Follow directional signage and the guidance of University Police
When you arrive on campus, there will be directional signage for each residence hall. Also, please follow the guidance of University Police and parking staff who are there to ensure roads are accessible and the traffic flow is running smooth on campus.

  • Go to your residence hall BEFORE unpacking your car
It's extremely important to make sure that you are in the correct location before putting in the work of unloading all of the items you brought for your new space.

  • Check-in at your hall's welcome table or tent
Each hall will have an established welcome table where you will get your room key, important information, and will utilize the QR code sent to your Ball State email (from the move-in appointment time you scheduled) to become officially checked-in for the Academic Year.
  • Utilize move-in equipment
We will have bellhop style carts available for students to use at our halls. These are usually in high demand, so please be patient with our staff if you are wanting/needing one and need to wait until one becomes available. It's also welcomed for students to bring their own dolly or cart to assist with move in.
Parking and Shuttles

PARKING

When you arrive on campus, park only in designated areas. Do not park on sidewalks, near barricades, in roundabouts, or in drives—vehicles will be asked to move or towed to Scheumann Stadium if left unattended.

Use the family parking map to locate yellow or green lots (outlined in red) where you can park while assisting with move-in. No vehicles should be left in any lot overnight during move-in dates.

Students must move their cars to their designated parking spots as soon as possible. Vehicles not moved by the end of the day may be ticketed or towed. Overnight parking is only allowed at Scheumann Stadium.

Parking around residence halls is strictly enforced, and no overnight parking is allowed in any garage from Sunday, August 11, 5:00 a.m., to Saturday, August 17, 5:00 p.m.

For questions regarding on-campus parking, please contact Parking Services.

SHUTTLES

Campus shuttles will be running beginning the week of move-in with limited routing. Additional shuttle service will be provided on Tuesday, August 13 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. between the Stadium Lot and residence halls to accommodate students moving their vehicles.

For questions regarding on-campus shuttle buses and transportation, please contact Transportation Services.

Bed Rails

Students can request a bed rail for their lofted beds upon arrival on-campus. Requests can be made at their residence hall's front desk. Please note that there is limited availability.

Lofting and Stacking Beds

Students living in the residence halls have furniture in the room that is loftable or stackable. No purchase or renting from an external source is permitted nor necessary. To loft or stack furniture, a rubber mallet is recommended to help with the process. Students can borrow this tool from the front desk of their residence hall.

When lofting or stacking furniture in a student room, one window must remain completely free and clear of obstruction. Fire safety codes require at least three feet of space between the window and any items that could obstruct the window for use as an emergency entrance/exit.

Student rooms are checked for loft policy violations periodically. Hall directors reserve the right to require students to remove a loft that does not meet safety guidelines. Loft/bed units must be taken apart and removed from the hall when instructed to do so by hall staff. Loft disassembly must take place before the start of quiet hours at the end of each semester. Room occupants are responsible for any and all damages caused by the assembly or disassembly of such units.

Lofting your bed can be a great utilization of the space in your room! Learn how to adjust stackable furniture by watching the video below that's suitable to your residence hall.
