Students at Orientation


On-campus overnight housing in a residence hall is available for first year Cardinals attending Orientation. Students may choose to stay on campus for one to three nights as needed. It's important for those who are registering to stay overnight in on-campus housing to keep in mind the date(s) they have chosen to attend Orientation as this information will be required when securing their accommodations.

Overnight Housing Location

On-campus overnight housing is available for students and family members in North West Residence Hall. North West is located on the north side of Ball State's campus and is in close proximity to North Dining Hall. North West has semi-private bathrooms (a bathroom shared by a small number of students) and central air conditioning.

Student Orientation Housing

We encourage you to stay the night before your Orientation session to briefly experience what it is like to live in a residence hall! Rooms are available to stay in at North West Residence Hall. You’ll share a double room with another incoming student and have opportunities to meet people and ask questions.

Room Details and Amenities:

  • Rate: $30 per room, per night.

  • Room Configuration: Rooms are standard doubles, furnished with two beds, light bed linens, pillows, and towels.

  • Capacity: Students attending overnight orientation will room with another person also attending orientation. Students have the option to buy out the room but this is based on capacity/availability and will cost more.

  • Bathroom Configuration: North West Residence Hall features semiprivate bathrooms with a shared sink area and individual locking restroom spaces.

  • Additional Features: Rooms are air-conditioned and have wireless internet access.

Each room is:

  • Furnished with two beds, bed linens, pillows, and towels
  • Wireless internet accessible
  • Air-conditioned

Payment:

  • All reservations must be paid for online prior to arrival with Discover, Visa, or MasterCard; payments are not accepted upon arrival. If credit card payment is not an option for you, please contact our office for alternative solutions.

Cancellations:

  • Orientation housing reservations may be canceled, but refunds are not guaranteed. Cancellations should be made at least 24 hours prior to a scheduled orientation housing reservation. You may cancel your orientation housing directly on the housing portal.

Family members attending Orientation with their student have the option to stay on campus in North West Residence Hall. However, family members will stay overnight in a separate room from their student. Space is limited and not guaranteed.

Room Details and Amenities:

  • Rate: $50 per room, per night.

  • Room Configuration: Rooms are standard doubles, furnished with two beds, light bed linens, pillows, and towels.

  • Capacity: Each room can host up to two adults and two children under the age of 12. Children who are minors must stay in the same room as a parent or guardian.

  • Bathroom Configuration: North West Residence Hall features semiprivate bathrooms with a shared sink area and individual locking restroom spaces.

  • Additional Features: Rooms are air-conditioned and have wireless internet access.

Reservation Information and Payment:
We recommend booking family housing around the same time the student secures their Orientation housing accommodations to ensure availability.

  • Families may reserve up to two rooms. However, if a minor is part of the overnight party, a guardian must stay in the same room as the minor.

  • All reservations must be paid for online prior to arrival with Discover, Visa, or MasterCard; payments are not accepted upon arrival. If credit card payment is not an option for you, please contact our office for alternative solutions.

Family members and students are NOT roomed together during Orientation.

All housing arrangements for students and family members should be made before arriving at Orientation. Checking into our orientation housing is ideally like checking into a hotel. A valid ID and confirmation of booking and payment are required. Also, feel free to bring personal items that will make your stay more comfortable.

  • Guests staying overnight must check in and pick up their key no later than 10:00 p.m. (EDT) on their arrival date.
  • All guests must be checked out of their room in the residence hall no later than 10:00 a.m. on their required departure day. Most guests choose to checkout prior to the start of sessions on the second day of orientation. This means all personal items removed and room key returned to the hall desk.
