Mark Helmus
Chief Advancement Officer
Mark has served as the Chief Advancement Officer for the Ball State University Foundation since February 2021. In this role, he provides leadership to the Our Call to Beneficence comprehensive capital campaign and Ball State’s principal gifts program.
From August 2015 until his current role, Mark served as Ball State’s Senior Vice President for Development, leading a team of 25 focused on capital campaigns, principal gifts, planned gifts, corporate giving and sponsorships, and athletics development.
Previous advancement leadership experiences include Butler University, Delta Tau Delta Educational Foundation, and Franklin College.
Mark earned his BA degree in psychology from Ohio University and an MS degree in higher education administration from the University of Tennessee. He currently serves on the Central Indiana Bicycle Association Foundation Board and is a past board member and chair of Starfish Initiative, the Planned Giving Group of Indiana (PGGI) and the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Endowment Committee.
Mark and his wife, Carol, met through their work as Greek fundraisers. Carol works for Tri-Delta sorority foundation and recently completed her third and final elected term on the Lawrence Township School Board. They have two adult children, a dog named Cooper, and reside in Indianapolis.
In his spare time, Mark enjoys cycling, traveling, red wine, trying new craft beers, and being anywhere near water.
