SaVE Act Training

The Campus SaVE Act [Section 304 of the reauthorized Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)] was signed into law on March 7, 2013. The Campus SaVE Act requires that institutions of higher education provide mandatory ongoing primary prevention and awareness programs and training for students and employees. The programs must address several topics related to rape, acquaintance rape, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Each employee will receive an e-mail with a link to the online training module. The e-mail will also contain a unique username and password for that employee. The employee clicks on the link and logs into the online module using his/her unique username and password.

The Campus SaVE Act module—Bridges: Building a Supportive Community—is a collaboration between Ball State and an online training vendor, LawRoom.com. This self-paced online program ensures that Ball State University is in compliance with educational requirements of Title IX and the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act

Topics Covered

  • university policies prohibiting sexual harassment and sexual violence
  • the definitions of consent, sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking
  • the dangers of alcohol and other drug use and abuse
  • how to identify sex discrimination
  • how to report misconduct and assist victims
  • prevention of sexual misconduct, including rape myths and victim blaming, and bystander intervention strategies

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 (“FACT Act”) requires institutions such as Ball State to adopt identity theft "Red Flags Rules" and guidelines. The FACT Act also requires relevant employees to complete training on these rules.

Supervisors of student employees should review student position responsibilities, and if appropriate, conduct department-specific Red Flags training. Supervisors are encouraged to download and use either version of The Red Flags Rule training material:

Thank you for helping Ball State University comply with this federal requirement.
