Department: Biology

Research Focus:  Exploring the value of novel sources of digital data to fisheries science and management.

Potential Student Project(s):

Use geographical and statistical tools to explore digital data (website traffic, apps, mobile locations) and prepare them for analyses.

Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate:

Enthusiasm for data science, conservation, and management - especially in the context of fisheries. Reliable and independent. Experience with GIS and R or a willingness to learn.

Mentoring Plan:

Students attend weekly lab meetings and meet 1-on-1 with me as needed (usually once per week). In the beginning, we will focus on skill development. As the student gains confidence using the software, they will begin to work independently with the data. The student will be an integral part of the team, helping to develop new projects and supporting existing ones.

The student researcher will work 5 h/week on the project including a 1-on-1 interaction 1 hour/week.
