Srikant Devaraj
Visiting Research Scholar
Srikant Devaraj, PhD, is a visiting research scholar for the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) at Ball State University. He has worked extensively with CBER, most recently as a research economist and research assistant professor until July 2022.
Devaraj earned a doctorate in economics from Indiana University, Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 2016 with fields in applied econometrics, health economics, and health informatics (minor). His research focuses on public policy, business and economics, regional economics, and health/health services/behavioral outcomes. Devaraj is also currently a co-chair for the Indiana State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroup.
Devaraj has published in several academic journals, such as Applied Economics, Small Business Economics, Managerial and Decision Economics, Journal of Regional Analysis and Policy, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Business Research, Family Business Review, Social Science and Medicine, PLOS One, Nicotine and Tobacco Research, American Heart Journal, and European Journal of Heart Failure, to name a few. His research has been covered by Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, CNN, NPR’s “Morning Edition”, CBS, Fox, NBC, MSNBC, Marginal Revolution blog, Science magazine, Indianapolis Star, The Atlantic, Forbes, Bloomberg, USA Today, The Hill, American Enterprise Institute, and many national/international news outlets.
Devaraj received the 2016 “Best Unpublished Research Paper” award from Family Firm Institute. He received the "Extraordinary Year Award" from the Miller College of Business, Ball State University in 2017. He earned the 2019 "Paul Polzin Prize for Best Paper Award" from the Association for University Business and Economic Research. He also earned the 2021 "Faculty Research Award for Excellence in Pedagogical, Policy or Practice Scholarship" from the Miller College of Business, Ball State University.
Additionally, Devaraj holds master’s degrees in information and communication sciences and business administration from Ball State University. He was a graduate research assistant for the Center for Media Design at Ball State. His bachelor’s degree is in mechanical engineering from the University of Madras (India). He is also a PMI-certified project management professional (PMP). He also worked as a project engineer at VA Tech Wabag Ltd (India) for three years in the field of project management.
