This statement details your annual earnings as well as your employee benefits like tuition remission and the University’s contributions to your total compensation package.

This statement shares information about your annual earnings and benefits, and it shows you the University’s total investment in you as an employee of the University.

This statement details your annual earnings as well as your employee benefits like tuition remission and the University’s contributions to your total compensation package.

This statement is broken down into four sections:

  • Earnings – this section shows your gross wages by earnings category.
  • Benefits – this section shows your contributions and the University’s contributions to your employee benefits.
  • Retirement – this section shows your contributions and the University’s contributions to your retirement accounts.
  • Summary – this section shows a summary of the above sections, plus tuition remission and taxable fringe benefits* received, and a grand total line that shows benefits, retirement, and other University contributions to your total compensation package for the previous calendar year.

* Taxable fringe benefits are listed on the line called “Other” and include items like the imputed income associated with the value of your group term life insurance over $50,000, personal use of loaner vehicles, club memberships, lodging, and clothing receipts.

This statement includes all wages from any job you have at BSU as well as your associated benefits.

The Total Compensation Statement does provide the same information as a pay stub.  It also includes tuition remission benefits and taxable fringe benefits as a view of your total compensation package.

This statement is not intended to match your Form W-2, as that form is responsible for showing your taxable wages per IRS guidelines.  The intention of this statement is to communicate your entire compensation package as an employee of the University.

The “Allowances” line listed in the earnings section shows allowances paid for items like cell phone, automobile, clothing, and wellness.
The “Other” line listed in the summary section shows taxable fringe benefit items like the imputed income associated with the value of group term life insurance over $50,000 in coverage, the personal use of a loaner car, club memberships, moving expense reimbursements, lodging, and clothing receipts.
