Dr. Liu Li was born and raised in Southern China. After she received a master’s degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Beijing Normal University, she went to Carnegie Mellon University to pursue her PhD in Second Language Acquisition. She has been teaching Chinese and doing research on learning/teaching Chinese as a second language in the United States for more than a decade. Her research interests include literacy development of Chinese as a second language, computer-assisted language learning, Business Chinese pedagogy, bilingualism, and psycholinguistics.
Dr. Li received the “STARTALK” federal grant to help increase the number of American students learning Chinese, which is a critical language for the USA. Dr. Li is the recipient of “the Teacher of Year” selected by the Chinese Language Teachers’ Association of Indiana in 2021.
