A student works with a member of the faculty in the simulation lab

The Fundamental Simulation Lab provides an environment focused on hands-on learning experiences, preparing students for real-world situations. Instructional areas are built into the space as well as an adjacent clinical classroom with an overbed lift for instruction and the practice of fundamental nursing skills.

Students in the prelicensure nursing program hone their skills in this lab which offers equipment found in an inpatient environment to make it realistic for student learning. Equipment includes:

  • 10 hospital beds
  • Alaris IV pumps
  • feeding pumps
  • patient monitors
  • portable lift
  • variety of task trainers and manikins

In the lab, there are one-way glass control booths so facilitators can remain out of sight during simulation experiences. There are also recording capabilities for student learning, reflection, and debriefing.

The lab is open to any faculty in the College of Health wanting to offer students hands-on simulation scenarios.
