The Obstetrics Simulation Lab provides a birthing simulator and two additional maternal manikins for students to learn and practice postpartum care. Prelicensure nursing students work through complications a mother may experience as well as a baby with one of our high-fidelity neonatal manikins or our low fidelity preemie simulator.
This lab offers equipment found in an inpatient obstetrics environment including:
- 3 birthing beds
- Alaris IV pumps
- digital infant scales
- fetal heart monitor
- fetal heart tones trainer
- Giraffe incubator/warmer
- manikins (maternal and neonatal)
- newborn warmer
- open mobile cribs
- patient monitors
- preemie isolette
The Obstetrics Simulation Lab features instructional space for demonstration and practice. It also provides a control booth with one-way glass for facilitators and technology specialists to remain out of view during simulation experiences. Recording capability is available for further student learning, reflection, and debriefing.
The lab is open to any faculty in the College of Health wanting to offer students hands-on practice in obstetrics.
