It's time for the 91st Annual Student Art Show! The School of Art’s Annual Student Show displays artwork produced by students and gives students the opportunity to participate in a professional exhibition where a qualified juror selects artwork and artistic awards of distinction.

Art Gallery, located just off the Atrium Food Court in AJ 101 in the Art and Journalism Building.
This year’s exhibition will be open from February 13 through March 18. The reception and awards ceremony will be Saturday, February 21 from 6 P.M. – 8 P.M. in The Ned and Gloria Griner Gallery.
Information for School of Art students
This art show is managed as a professional exhibition. Students interested in participating in this year's exhibition should download the full version of the prospectus. Submit your work at studentshow.bsu.edu. Your student account will be automatically charged $5/entry. Students will be notified by email about each submission's acceptance or rejection via email. Instructions about artwork drop-off will be include in those emails.
Calendar of Events
Notification of jurying results. If your artwork is accepted, you will receive detailed instructions on how and when to deliver your artwork to the gallery.
Artwork drop-off instructions will be included in the notification email. Committee has discretion to reject pieces based on quality of presentation.
Exhibition opens at 10am in The Ned and Gloria Griner Art Gallery in the School of Art.
The reception and awards ceremony will take place from 6-8 p.m. in the Ned and Gloria Griner Art Gallery.
The juror (Kyle Harrington) will select internal scholarship awards in the categories listed under eligible media.
Additionally, there will be:
- $500 for 1st place
- $250 for 2nd place
- $150 for 3rd place
Other Awards
- Three awards sponsored by the Muncie Students̓ Art League (recipients must give a presentation to the league)
- $350 Dean’s Scholarship Award(s) (selected by the Dean of the College of Fine Arts)
- $500 President’s Scholarship Award (selected by the President of Ball State University)
- $500 Marilynn Derwenskus Painting Award of Distinction
All BSU awards monies are entered as “Internal Scholarships” on students' Bursar's Accounts. If you are not currently enrolled at Ball State for this Spring Semester 2026, you are ineligible for cash awards.
Exhibition closes at 4pm.
This Year’s Juror
Kyle Herrington
Kyle Herrington is a curator and mixed media artist originally from Indianapolis, Indiana.
Kyle has been curating professionally for over 15 years, focusing primarily on projects that center the work of emerging, underrepresented, and queer artists and collectives. Kyle holds significant experience serving stakeholders and audiences of community arts organizations, most notably during his 11 years at the Indianapolis Art Center, where he served as the Curator and Director of Exhibitions and Events from 2014 – 2020. Most recently, Kyle was Curator-in-Residence at the Fire Island Artist Residency in Summer 2023, where he now serves on the Board of Directors.
Kyle has organized and curated over 50 exhibitions under a curatorial philosophy that is inherently collaborative and transdisciplinary - drawing upon a multivalent array of approaches, mediums, and scholarship, with exhibitions ranging from solo shows and thematic group exhibits to public art projects. He has also worked extensively with collections, from private holdings to institutional archives and collections such as The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction, Hessel Museum of Art at Bard College, and The Institute for Studies on Latin American Art. Additionally, Kyle has exhibited and written about the work of many notable and highly regarded artists such as Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Roberto Jacoby, Feliciano Centurión, Sable Elyse Smith, Jacolby Satterwhite, K8 Hardy, Mike Kelley, and Tom Burr among others.
Kyle holds a BFA in Fine Arts from Ball State University and an MA in Curatorial Studies from The Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College.
How is the juror selected?
The Student Show Committee selects the juror for the exhibition each year. The committee invites nominations each Fall semester from the school’s faculty.
