Shawn is the creator of the “Common Natives of Indiana” series, a series of free booklets and resources to help teach young students about the flora and fauna of Indiana and the importance of them to our ecosystem. The booklets were designed primarily for grades 3-5 but are enjoyed by readers of all ages. To further assist teachers and parents, the series also includes WPA-inspired posters, slideshows, and resource and suggestion guides that contain web links to additional resources, ideas that can be implemented in and out of the classroom, and lesson ideas for ELA, Math, and STEM. Additionally, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources printed and distributed the tree posters to all Tree City and Tree Campus USA partners in the state as part of their celebration of the 50th anniversary of Arbor Day.
Shawn and his wife, Dr. Monique Sullivan, are the parents of two daughters and reside in Franklin, IN. In his spare time, you’ll find him spending time with family, reading, and being active outdoors.
