Blake John Probert
Assistant Lecturer of Special Education and American Sign Language
Blake is the Program Director of the American Sign Language (ASL) Department, he intends to bring a wealth of knowledge to his students. He is a native user of American Sign Language, comes from a long line of Deaf family members, and is part of the Deaf community. Blake strives to provide students with a deep understanding of the rich traditions and experiences that shapes the Deaf world. With learning the language, ASL, students will also have the opportunity to learn about Deaf culture and Deaf History to promotes a greater awareness of the diverse experiences in the Deaf community.
Professional Experience
Blake has several research interests which lies within Deaf History, Deaf Culture, and the importance in having a full access to ASL for Deaf individuals. His research focuses on the impact of aural/oralism approach as a cause of language deprivation, communication skills, cognitive development, and identity developments in Deaf individuals. His research also explores linguistic foundations of ASL which includes classifiers, morphemes, depictions, and more.
